[Attachment(s) from Prime Point Srinivasan included below]

hi

We are pleased to attach herewith 88th (July 2014) edition of ezine PreSense with the following contents.

This issue is unique in many ways.

(a)  In the latest book "A Manifesto for Change' written by Dr A PJ Abdul Kalam & V Ponraj released in the market last week, Dr Kalam has made several references about Prime Point Foundation, your ezine PreSense and Sansad Ratna Award. T N Ashok reviews the book.

(b) Also, your ezine's cartoon character 'PRince'  has completed 6 years of his cartoon journey with this issue.  PRince has been our Brand Ambassador for all these years. We have reproduced in the 'archives' section, the launch of cartoon character in July 2008 by Dr Abdul Kalam. As a mark of celebration, we have published the cartoon images of Editor in Chief and Cartoonist Triambak Sharma in the issue.

(c) IIT Madras has developed an unique model for building low cost multi story housing using glass fibre and gypsum. . The Director of IIT Madras and the two Professors who are the brain behind this model explained the advantages of this model to our editorial team.  Susan Koshy has written  an exclusive article highlighting the achievement of IIT Madras and the importance of this model for future.

(d) The recent protest by IAS aspirants in Delhi to scrap 'CSAT preliminary examinations' on the grounds of discrimination has triggered lot of debate.  This K. Srinivasan analyses the issue and suggests a suitable solution which the protesting IAS aspirants and political leaders will accept spontaneously without hesitation or debate.

(e) In the month of July, the nation celebrated ;Guru Poornima'.  Under the Ancient Indian Wisdom section, Sukruti Vadula  analyses the HR significance of  Guru Poornima .

(f)  BRICS 2014 Summit has brought India to centre stage.  India will play a significant role in future in this Region.  TN Ashok has brought out the importance of National Development Bank (NDB)  in the cover story.

The ezine may also be downloaded in pdf format from the following link.

We hope you will enjoy this edition too.  Please send us your feedback.

[India_Vision_2020] Remembering the Emergency days 1975 - What happened during those days? + Rare pictures

hi all

On this day 39 years ago (mid night of 25/26 June 1975), Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed emergency in India. The fundamental rights were suspended. All the senior opposition leaders, including Jayaprakash Narayanan, Vajpayee, Advani, George Fernandes were imprisoned.  George Fernandes was handcuffed and taken to the prison.  Many leaders went underground and worked against the emergency to consolidate the people.

Press censorship was imposed.  All the newspapers and magazines had to show their contents to the designated officials of PIB and take the clearance before publishing.  When the media was asked to bend, some of the leading national media houses (who now claim to be the champions of press freedom) chose to crawl.

Indian Express (under the leadership of Shri Ramnath Goenka) and Thuglak (Editor: Shri Cho S Ramaswamy) were bold enough to write against the Government.  When the contents were rejected by the censor officials, Indian Express brought out blank pages in between to convey the seriousness to their editors.  Generally other publications used to fill up those rejected contents with non controversial items.  (See the photo shots in the article - link given below)

The most popular cartoon magazine Shankar;s Weekly was forced to close down their magazine in August 1975 after 27 years of successful publication. (See the touching photo shot of the last cover of the magazine)

Even the records of emergency excesses were destroyed later by the subsequent Governments.  Mr Era Sezhiyan (92), a veteran Parliamentarian has now published the Shah Commission Report on Emergency, from his personal copy.

Many Indians in the age group of less than 55 or 60 may not have any opportunity to experience the challenging days of Indian democracy. They may not know how senior leaders like Jayaprakash Narayanan boldly fought to bring back democracy.  That was considered as 'Second Freedom Movement'.

Please read my 3 Part article with rare pictures in the following links. Already, I published this article in the June 2012 issue of our ezine PreSense.

Re: [India_Vision_2020] India River Links

Reg Inter Linking of Rivers.

1. National Water Development Agency (NWDA), the nodal agency under Ministry of Water Resources,  is implementing such a plan within each state. Intra state linking is to start yet obviously due to known reasons. The projects are moving on snails pace as the State is responsible for decision within that state and not Centre. This is one way water flow plan.

2. NWDA engineered plan has its own negative implications. Other than water nothing can be extracted. Moreover lot of lands to be purchased which will take more time & legal battles.

3. Most of the NWDA plans are yet to get state, environment ministry clearance and pending for feasibility study.

3. There is an alternative plan, which says, apart from water - marine transport, hydel power and two way flow is possible. Also land acquistion need is much less as the proposed route is different. Unfortunately no feasibility study has bern done on this proposal.

For more details write to my mail id.
