Dear friends

Just now, I got a message from Mr V Ponraj, Advisor to Dr Abdul Kalam that Dr Kalam has seen our greetings message sent in the morning  and in turn he thanked all the members of India Vision and Action 2020 team.  He also conveyed his greetings to all of us.  We are greatly privileged to receive his blessings exclusively, when he enters 80th year.

Today, he is celebrating his birthday at Edathua, in Allapuzha (Kerala).  In this place 200 years old  Church has celebrated Dr Kalam's birthday by planting 80 trees.

Yesterday, he spent the day with the students of IIST, Thiruvananthapuram who celebrated his birthday.  At stroke of midnight, his friends joined together at Allapuzha to cut the cake.

Let us all together celebrate this great occassion, when he enters 80th year.  Let us pray His Almighty to bless Dr Kalam with a long and healthy life to guide the youth and the Nation.

  Dear Srinivasan sir,

Greetings from CHILDLINE India Foundation.  Its was nice to chat with you. As said , i am forwarding you details about CHILDLINE service.

CHILDLINE India is a national, 24 hour, free, emergency telephone helpline and outreach service for children in need of care and protection currently operational in 83 cities of India covering 25 States and UTs.

From a small beginning in Mumbai ('96) when they received 6,000 calls to a national programme that logs in over 2 million calls a year, CHILDLINE India has certainly come a long way and is further mandated by the XIth Plan to extend to every district in India. There are 447 million children in India of which 178 million are marginalized due to various causes. CHILDLINE 1098 is the link between these children and the services available for them.

Everyday CHILDLINE receives thousands of calls. Each call is important and is answered by a didi or bhaiya who has been trained to listen, chat, assure, reach out and help the child. And because it's free, children of all ages, the most disadvantage who are missing, sexually and physically abused, child labour, the disabled child left on the street and many other whose distress calls for our help can pick up the phone at any corner, any time and say. "Hello CHILDLINE?", knowing that help, if they need it, will reach them within an hour.

By dialing in to 1098, a child sets off a chain of child protection action that  involves the Local Level Civil Society Organisations; the Police; the Juvenile Justice System; Health, Education and Labour Departments. And which doesn't stop till the child is rehabilitated with family or safe within institutional care. CHILDLINE India, catalyses every body directly or indirectly charged with protecting child's right.

CHILDLINE 1098 is India's only and most widespread Children's phone emergency outreach service for distress and deprived children in need of care and protection. We not only respond to emergency needs of children but also provide a platform of networking amongst organisations and provide linkages to support systems that facilitate the rehabilitation of children in need.

This is a project supported by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development and linking state Governments, NGOs, bilateral /multilateral agencies and corporate sector. In 12 years, CHILDLINE has worked with over 3 million children in need of care and protection.

Spread the word around. Tell your friends, your colleagues at work, friends in the media, children in distress, everybody you know, about CHILDLINE what we do and how they can help a child in need. We can help by giving you an HTML page about CHILDLINE, which you can email to people you know.

 Call 1098 from your home, from your office, from any part of the city and if it isn't working, let us know by email .

Inform us when you see a child in distress. Call 1098 or email us to inform our team about the needs of a child in distress.

 Sponsor the CHILDLINE service in your city in some way (helping with T-shirts and caps, or contributing stuff on important days and festivals.)

 Sustain our services by making a donation for specific purposes, in a way convenient to you - http://www.childlineindia.org.in/1098/donations.htm

Your support is deeply valued and appreciated as it helps us reach out to more children.

Thanks & Regards,
