Dear Sirs,
We are shocked and surprised that you have gone on strike without any consideration to the difficulties, inconvenience, and strain you are forcing the Citizen-Consumers of Public sector banks to undergo. This strike is unfair and unnecessary.
Srimathi Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India caused the nationalizing of Private Banks so that the banks will be able to extend all their services to ALL CITIZEN-CONSUMERS OF THIS COUTRY. In fact, the PSU banks provided excellent service to assist the Government in many of its welfare schemes, since nationalization.
Bank service is an essential service, required to be made available through out the year and through out the country. Frequent strikes dislocate the life and need of the
Citizen-Consumers of the Bank services.
We have studied the demands of all your unions and also obtained documents from both sides. We see a lot of scope for the continuance of the dialogue and negotiations with each other, without inconveniencing the general public of this country.
We ask you to withdraw the strike immediately without causing any inconvenience to the Public. Your declaration that you will go on indefinite strike in March, is unacceptable to the Citizen-Consumers of the Bank services.
You may kindly take this as notice requesting you to desist from going on any indefinite strike and also withdraw the strike immediately without carrying it through for two days on the 25th & 26th February. The last strike in January also caused tremendous inconvenience and difficulties to the public at large and Citizen-Consumers in particular. Many were even unable to get medicines, access to hospital services, unable to travel as they were unable to withdraw money from Banks and also when sudden medical needs of people were unable to be attended to. You also seem to plan your strikes on days preceding or succeeding public holidays. This is unfair. There are lots of ways to democratically handle your problems without resorting to strikes. If you think that strikes evoke sympathy towards your cause, you are mistaken. People are fed up. We have received requests from many consumer organisations in the country asking us to proceed against your unions decision to strike for two days now and indefinite strike in march..
We look forward to your seeing the Citizen-Consumers point of view of the strikes and order withdrawal of the current strike and the proposed indefinite strike in March 2008.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
R.Desikan
