[India_Vision_2020] Sansad Ratna Awards 2013 - Provisional Announcement

hi all

As you know, Prime Point Foundation and the Ezine PreSense present Sansad Ratna Awards annually to the top performing Lok Sabha Members during April or May.  Their participation in (1) Debates, (2) Raising Questions, (3) Introducing Private Members Bills and (4) attendance are taken into account while presenting the Awards.  We are giving the Awards for the past three years and all the earlier details are available in www.sansadratna.in.  This event is to encourage performing Parliamentarians and to motivate them to perform better and better.

During 2012, Mr Gopalkrishna Gandhi (grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and Rajaji and former Governor of West Bengal) presented the Awards.  The event was held at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, in the presence of eminent citizens of Chennai.

Sansad Ratna Awards 2013 is scheduled on 20th April 2013 (Saturday) at IIT, Madras. (Please note it is in April and not in March)  The Award winners will be adjudged based on the above four parameters at the end of the Part I of the Budget Session 2013, which ends on 22nd March 2013.

In the earlier years, we were giving Sansad Ratna Awards only to the top four performing MPs.  From this year, we also want to present Sansad Ratna Awards to the top 3 Women MPs.

Besides, we also want to honour in the presence eminent citizens the top performing MPs of Lok Sabha as follows:  (Not Sansad Ratna; but only honouring)

(a)  5 Lok Sabha top performing MPs of Tamilnadu;
(b)  One young MP (age 35 and less) for the overall performance;

From the data available  of the current 15th Lok Sabha from the first sitting to 1st March 2013, the following MPs have become eligible for the Awards.  This is subject to their maintaining their lead position as on 22nd March 2013.

Category A (Sansad Ratna Award 2013 for overall top performance)

(1) Mr Ananda Rao Adsul (Maharashtra), (2) Mr S S Ramasubbu (Tamilnadu), (3) Mr Hansraj G Ahir (Maharastra) and (4) Mr Arjun Ram Meghwal (Rajasthan).   -  These MPs were also the Award winners in the earlier years.

Category B (Sansad Ratna Award 2013 - For top performing Women MPs)

(1) Supriya Sule (Maharastra), (2) Ratna Singh (UP) and Rama Devi (Bihar)

Category C (Honouring for State level performance - Not Sansad Ratna Award) - Top 5 Tamilnadu MPs.

(1) Mr Sugavanam (2) Mr Thamarai Selvan, (3) Mr Sivasami, (4) Mr Semmalai and (5) Mr P Viswanathan.  (Since Mr Ramasubbu is eligible for Sansad Ratna Award, he is not included here).

Category D (Honouring of one Young MP of less than 35 for overall performance - Not Sansad Ratna Award)

(1) Mr Dharmendra Yadav (UP) - age 35.

(These names are based on the performance released by PRS India upto 1st March 2013.  Though the same trend is likely to continue, the final announcement will be based on the final figures upto 22nd March 2013.)

The event is scheduled on Saturday the 20th April 2013.  We will have a full day programme on the governance and democracy.  We will have panel discussions, sharing of experience with the performing MPs, young generation political leaders, etc.  This will be held in IIT, Madras.

Those who are interested to participate and to involve themselves in the event, may kindly write to me offline at prpoint@gmail.com.  You can also share this message with your contacts.

I will update the members further.
