Presently, many people want to achieve their goal.  When they face difficulties or failure, they get disheartened and lose their enthusiasm to pursue their mission.  We commonly see this phenomenon among the younger generation. Dr Subramanian Swamy, President of Janata Party is known for his perseverance.
On behalf of PodUniversal, we requested him for an exclusive interview for the Diamond Jubilee edition of ezine (Feb 2011 issue) to get the tips for 'perseverance'.  During our interview, he shared his views in a simple manner. Excerpts from his interview:During early 1970s, when Indira Gandhi imposed emergency in India, Dr Swamy was issued with the arrest warrant.  Braving all challenges, he entered into Parliament and presented his views and escaped to other countries.  Now, when, all the media have been writing about  2G scam for the past two years, only because of the sustained efforts of Dr Swamy through judicial route, many arrests were made possible.
On behalf of PodUniversal, we requested him for an exclusive interview for the Diamond Jubilee edition of ezine (Feb 2011 issue) to get the tips for 'perseverance'.  During our interview, he shared his views in a simple manner. Excerpts from his interview:
"Out put of your efforts is not directly proportional to the efforts.  Some time, you you put in lot of efforts and get nothing; Some time, with least efforts, you get lot.  The same is described in Bhawad Gita as 'karma theory'.  Every one should pursue the goal without tension, putting the best efforts. If you understand and develop this attitude, 'perseverance' comes. If you get disheartened, perseverance evaporates.
Generally, people are averse to taking risks.  You can not achieve anything without taking risks. When you take the risk, there is a probability of failure also.  Risk taking attitude should be developed.
Perseverance is the amalgam of multiple intelligences like emotional intelligence, social intelligence, moral intelligence and spiritual intelligence.  India is known for the spiritual intelligence, which connects to cosmos."

India Vision online Group and Action 2020 Team will partner with Chennai Police in their initiatives to develop Kannagi Nagar, the largest 'resettlement colony' in South Asia.

Around 35,000 people live in this locality. Another 15,000 will be added shortly.  The entire population is on account of the resettled families from the City slums, and also the tsunami victims.  Slum Clearance Board constructed houses for them and shifted all the city slum dwellers to this locality.  In this process, many of the criminals have also been pooled in this area.

Kannagi Nagar is presently a notorious area for many of the criminal activities.  The criminals may be very few, who are shifted in the process to this locality.  Besides, reducing the crime rate in this locality, preventing young children and boys from pursuing criminal activities is a challenging job not only for the Government and Police, but also for the civil society.

This resettlement colony is in the midst of the IT corridor. As you know, Chennai is emerging as one of the biggest IT hubs in India.  This colony with huge population, though notorious now, is also a great reservoir of human resources.

Realising the urgent importance of sensitising this area, Chennai Police has taken up a new commendable initiative to improve the development projects and to help the children and school drop outs to pursue their education and to motivate them to take up normal civil life.

Mr Shakeel Akthar IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police, Chennai (he is also the member of our India Vision group) invited Action 2020 team and Rotary Club for a discussion on 26th Feb 2011.  Please see the report in The Hindu in the following link:

Shiva, Convenor of Action 2020 team came all the way from Bangalore.  Mr Muthuraman of Suyam , Mr Natarajan of Dream India, Mr Vinod of Ashreya, Mythili of NEST and myself attended the meeting convened by the Addl. Commissioner of Police.  Senior officials from Rotary Club also participated.    Some of our Action 2020 team are already experienced in handling street children, child labour, etc.  They have also managed challenging situations from criminals.

On behalf of India Vision online group and Action 2020 team, we have  assured the Police Commissioner that we will also contribute like a 'squirrel' in their initiative.

If any of our India Vision Group NGOs  who have similar experience in other parts of the country may  kindly share your experience with us.  If any other NGOs, who are willing to get associated with this project, may also write to us immediately to my e mail id prpoint@gmail.com.

I am endorsing a copy to other communication groups also.  The  Corporates who  are interested to get associated with this project as part of their CSR, may also get in touch with me immediately.

I have heard that some of the Police officials have undertaken similar development projects elsewhere too.  But they are all small areas with limited population.  This Kannagi Nagar Project is the biggest one, which needs the support of the civil society in a large scale.

Police will monitor and  take care of the people with criminal background.   But we are more concerned and worried about thousands of young children, boys and girls, who need to be given proper guidance not to resort to illegal and unwanted  life.  This is where  NGOs, Corporates and Civil Society have greater role to play.

[India_Vision_2020] Remaining simple and humble, while holding high offices

dear friends

As announced earlier, the Feb issue of our ezine PreSense is the Diamond Jubilee edition (60th issue).  This ezine is being published for the past five years, without break.  As part of the Feb 2011 issue, we wanted to feature some of the achievers and create positive vibrations among our members and readers.

We find, many people when they assume higher office and power, change their attitude  drastically. Unfortunately, they do not realise that the power they enjoy is only temporary and not permanent.  Later when they retire or lose power, they get affected mentally.  The people, who 'show off' their power and position, do not get respected later.

At the same time, there are good number of people, who maintain the mental balance, when they assume higher offices of their career and power.  Such people are respected well even after their retirement.  I can even quote Mr S Narendra, a member of our group.  He used to be very simple and humble, when he was the Chief Spokesman of the Government of India.  He served as Advisor to Prime Minister.for 7 years.  Even at that time, he used to be easily approachable both directly and over phone.  He continues to be simple even now and is respected well.

Mr M Narendra, presently the Chairman of one of the leading Public Sector Banks Indian Overseas Bank is also one such person, who is not affected by the power and position.  I know him for nearly three decades.  He remains with the same simplicity, which I saw three decades back.

I recorded an exclusive interview with him on the secrets of his success.  Though, we will be publishing in the ezine, we wanted to release the video interview first.  Please listen to the inspiring interview.

[India_Vision_2020] Live blogging of National Election Watch Conference on Electoral and Political reforms

dear friends

National Election Watch is a body formed by many eminent academicians of Indian Institute of Management and Indian Institute of Technology few years back.  Only because of their sustained efforts and court case, the Government of India and Election Commission introduced the procedure of getting all the bio data (including criminal cases pending) from the candidates, at the time of filing the nomination.

During every election, they screen the nominations and give a consolidated report of the candidates facing criminal charges.  They are also creating awareness about the importance of electoral and political reforms, including the duties of every voter.

7th National Conference of National Election Watch is being held at Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai on 12th and 13th Feb 2011.  The present and past Chief Election Commissioners of India, representatives of all the National and Regional political parties will be participating in this Conference to debate about the various aspects of electoral reforms.

India Vision Group, Action 2020 are also partners of this event.  Our Ezine PreSense is also the Ezine Partner.

We plan to blog and report live from the venue from 9 AM on 12th February 2011 with important quotes and photos.  You may visit our site http://prpoint.blogspot.com or www.prpoint.in to get the information minute by minute.  You may also post your questions to the panelists through GTalk or Mail (we will inform the details at that time).

Please remember to log-on to the site on 12th Feb 2011 from 9 AM to read the live report.

[India_Vision_2020] An Indian PM who paid when sons used official car for personal work!

Forwarding a message circulated in prpoint group.
Moderator

Hi,

Compare and contrast Lal Bahadur Shastri and the current set of politicians!

Pasted below is a report by IANS.

Regards
Jagannathan

A PM who paid when sons used official car

At a time when Indian politicians make news for corruption and misuse of power comes a book on Lal Bahadur Shastri, the country's second prime minister who was so upright that he deposited money in government coffers because his sons had used his official car.

The incident has been captured in the book "Lal Bahadur Shastri: Past Forward" (Konark) by his son Sunil Shastri, a Congress politician and a former minister in Uttar Pradesh.

Sunil Shastri says he used to imagine having a big luxury car commensurate with the status of his 'babuji'(father) and Lal Bahadur Shastri did get a Chevrolet Impala for official use.

"One day I told babuji's personal secretary to ask the driver to bring the Chevrolet to the residence. We asked the driver for the keys and went for a drive," he says in the book.

Lal Bahadur Shastri later confronted the driver, saying, "Do you keep a logbook with you?" "When he nodded, babuji asked him to note the distance the car had run the previous day. When the driver said 14 km, he advised him to note it 'for private use' and then asked amma to give his personal secretary the amount applicable to be deposited in the government account."

Lal Bahadur Shastri ruled from June 1964 to January 1966, dying in Tashkent where he had gone to sign a treaty with Pakistan after the 1965 war.

The book is replete with instances of how the late Shastri lived - and the values he embraced and preached.

The son recalls how Lal Bahadur Shastri had shed tears upon meeting an Indian soldier badly wounded in the 1965 war with Pakistan.

"I don't have tears in my eyes because my death is near ... but despite being a major I am not able to stand up and salute my prime minister," the younger Shastri quotes the soldier, who was on a hospital bed, as saying.

And then it was the prime minister who could not control his own emotions. That was the only time he saw his father cry, says his son.

There are many interesting anecdotes on Shastri in the book.

* Lal Bahadur Shastri was told by his mother of his marriage in May 1928 only after he reached Varanasi. "He was surprised and told his mother that she should have at least asked him once before finalising it. Anyhow since his mother had decided, he said he would abide by her wishes."

* When Lal Bahadur Shastri's wife decided to learn Hindi, she paid the tuition fees by dispensing with the domestic maid and doing the household chores herself.

* Lal Bahadur Shastri often handed over to his wife his khadi kurtas when they became unusable and asked her to make handkerchiefs out of them. "He lived on the simple philosophy of 'waste not, want not'."

* In true Gandhian style, Lal Bahadur Shastri travelled like a commoner in trains even when he was railway minister. "He lived according to his principles."

* During the independence struggle, Lal Bahadur Shastri protested when his wife smuggled two mangoes to him when he was in the Faizabad prison. He was angry because it was illegal for prisoners to have anything other than jail food.

* Despite his preoccupations as prime minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri was a family man who devoted time to his mother and others when he returned home. It helped him get over the day's fatigue and worries.
