Re: [India_Vision_2020] Relationship building exercise with edu loan student borrowers - Indian Bank way

Good morning srinivasan sir,

Really its a good and healthy initiative for the next generation and India's bright future. In this type of delighting activities Prpoint Fundation is

doing good which moulds youths to great entity in this Global Trend.

Now a days youths and students are much care & have awareness for India's future and healthy corruption free Indian Politics because of some

good press people and magazines like our PRPoint foundation.

Here i would like to bring some practical scenarios what our students are facing from local branches to your kind notice  Still some issues are

there in the Interest subsidy for the moratorium period of students borrowers.

Canara bank performs well in this. Interest subsidy has been cleared by Canara bank for the 1st one year ie upto March 2011.

But IOB and other banks are not serious on this instead unnecessarily stressing the students and parents to pay the interest for the 1st one year

though they are eligible to get this subsidy and applied for the interest subsidy to their respective branch where they got their ed.loan.

If this point would really reached superiors of all banks and processed the subsidy applications  then it will be very great of them and the

students also peacefully concentrate on their studies.

My friend circle have received 11 loans and all are eligible for interest subsidy as per Govt norms based on parent's annual income.

Still no clear confirmation on their application.

Ex :

Education Loan no-012401000026470 Sathankulam branch Tuticorin Dist Tamilnadu.L oan Amount is 6.25 lakhs for Marine Eng.

Moratorium period interest subsidy application has been submitted by the student to the  branch within a week from the date of loan approval.

Sofar no update on this and local branch stressing parents and student to pay the 1st year interest.

Here onething is very clear. These students are getting loans for their higher education and they shouldn't be disturbed with any manner.

As you said in this mail if they maintain a good relationship with students, definitely they will do i mean they respect the bank and they are the

Moreover proper circulation required to every branch about this subsidy and follow up also might be sweetful.

ok. Sir my humble request is please have a look on this and  bring to light to make awareness among students and bank people.

Thanks,
Maharajan.

Present status of Banks-students relationship

Education Loan Task Force (ELTF), under India Vision Group has always been complaining that banks do not show interest in building relationship with edu loan student borrowers..  Most of the banks, even at the time of processing the edu loan applications, treat the students shabily and do not provide proper guidance and also do not sanction or reject the proposals in time.

Further, even after the sanction of the loans, the banks do not build any relationship with those young students.  The students are treated more as 'account numbers', than as 'human beings'.  We have been interacting with many of the student applicants and borrowers through ELTF.  Many of them do not develop loyalty towards the banks, though the banks have helped them to pursue their studies.  After completion of the studies, the students earn good money and still the banks do not find them as potential customers.  Ultimaely, many of the students, instead of remembering the great support given by the banks for their studies, remember only the bad treatment they had received from the banks.  Such indifferent and unfriendly attitude of the bank officials demotivate the students.   This is also the main reason for the edu loans becoming NPAs, at a later time.

Appeal by ELTF since two years

Even in the first meeting of ELTF held at Chennai, we appealed to all the Senior officials of the Banks, who were present there to develop a healthy interaction between  bank officials and  students, at periodical interval.   We also suggested this to RBI and to Government to advise the banks, to develop relationship with student borrowers.  Though, we have been crying from the roof-top and also mentioning this in our media interviews, so far, none of the banks have taken it seriously.

Indian Bank's new initiative

Though all the banks have never found our suggestion worth, Indian Bank Head Office took it seriously.  During the last one month, they have conducted 30 interaction sessions at various centres, on an experimental basis.  During these sessions, the student borrowers of Indian Bank branches were invited to the nearest town along with their parents, for one day interaction session.  The Bank provided them the refreshments and lunch.

They were received by Zonal Managers  and branch managers cordially.  .  Indian Bank also invited locally known and popular  industry CEOs, placement officers, HR experts, social workers to interact with the students and parents in the day-long session.   These experts gave advise to the students as to the skills needed for employment.  Some of the placement consultants promised them that they would hold 'special placement camps' for Indian Bank student borrowers also.

Views from Indian Bank Dy. General Manager

We spoke to Mr Balakrishnan, Dy. General Manager (Credit) of Indian Bank for his views.  He said that they conducted around 30 such camps in different districts covering around 6000 students.  The student-borrowers were invited from  nearby branches to  the nearest town for a day-long session.  The response for the first two camps were not encouraging.  After seeing the newspaper reports in the local dailies, the students started coming in large numbers in other camps.  Even students who wanted to apply for loans also joined the camp.

Mr Balakrishnan said that this exercise has helped the bank to bring the students more closer to the bank officials and to understand the genuine grievances and problems.  Also, the bank could update the latest profile of the students in their records.

Since this first experiment has given them sufficient  experience, they would conduct more number of camps at the end of every semester, when the students come back for vacation.  They would also cover more branches and more students in other states also, Mr Balakrishnan said.

Views from students, who participated

I also spoke to two students Sivaraj and Nimesh, who attended the camp at Coimbatore.  I called them over mobile separately.  From their talk, I could feel their excitement that the bank had given them importance by organising such meet.  It appears that the Regional Manager of the Bank  spoke about the importance of prompt  repayment of the loan availed by them and how such timely repayment could facilitate the bank to lend more to their own juniors who hail from poor families.  This talk has impressed them much and both have determined to repay the loan promptly to the bank, after completion of their studies. These students told me that all the students have gained this feeling.

In addition, these two students have also spread about this Camp to their friends in the college.  Indirectly, this initiative has helped Indian Bank to develop their brand image among the students and also to create an awareness about the repayment of the loan.

Six  benefits gained by Indian Bank

Now our earlier suggestions have proved right.  Indian Bank has shown  that through such exercise, they were able to (1) improve the relationship, (2) update the contacts, (3) create awareness about repayment, (4) help the students to improve the employability skills,(5) increase the loyalty of the students towards the bank and (6) above all enhance the credibility and brand image of the bank among youngsters.

I feel the other banks also should start similar exercise covering their student-borrowers. which can help them to gain all the benefits listed above.

Great mail sir. What Indian bank have done is simply great. They have now become a role model for other banks.

I'm sure other banks will also get motivated by this superb initiative by Indian bank and start doing similar camps from their side.

Re: [India_Vision_2020] Anti-corruption mood of the nation - Govt.should shoot the message and not the messenger.

Dear All,

Yes, I agree with Mr.Srinivasan, the more Anna Hazare/Baba Ramadev, the more scope for mis-interpretation and consequent problems.

It would be great if Mr.Srinivasan, could convey this to Anna Hazare/Baba Ramadev

The whole nation is charged with 'anti-corruption mood', after seeing the exposure of various scams involving senior politicians and bureaucrats.  The recent satyagraha by Baba Ramdev added more anger against the corruption.

Police brutality against the unarmed innocent people in Ramleela Grounds has further  angered the people.  Anna Hazare has also showed his concern by sitting on a token fast at Rajghat.  Justification given by the Government is not accepted by the public with credibility.

From all the news reports and TV shows, one thing is very clear that the Government is desperate about the situation.  When Baba Ramdev landed at Delhi, five senior ministers received him which attracted media criticism.  After two days, they have 'discoverred' that his satyagraha was politically motivated with the support of RSS and BJP.  In the midnight, when thousands of people were sleeping, they brutally flushed them out violating all human rights and  values.  Hon'ble Supreme Court has taken this issue suo-moto as a human right violation.

Instead of shooting the message, now the Government is harping on shooting the messenger. They are trying to find one fault or other with Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare.  The only 'sin' commited by them was to raise their voice against corruption and black money.  That is all.  It is immaterial who supports this movement or not.   Just because, opposition parties support this movement, the Government cannot brush this aside as politically motivated.   In the earlier instance, even Sonia Gandhi also pledged the support of Congress to Anna Hazare to fight against corruption.  In fact, all political parties should support this anti-corruption movement.

I have the following two observations to make:
On Government of India

1.  The Government wants to divert the attention to frivolous issues from the main issue of 'anti-corruption'.  Some of the TV channels are quite focussed and they focus only on the corruption issue.  Government should realise that such approach will anger the people and there will be more such movements on the street by the public.  Government may create more Anna Hazares and Baba Ramdevs.  Government should understand the mood of the people and address the issue forthwith, without diverting the issues.

On the anti-corruption leaders

2.  Because lot of TV channels are telecasting live, I find both Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev continuously speak in the mike.  The more they speak, they invite more controversies and they fall into the trap of the Government, to divert the attention from the main issue.  They should adopt Gandhian methods of 'Mauna Vrita' (Silence) with fast. This was also suggested by us in this forum earlier.   Whatever they want to communicate, they can communicate in a statement as a demand.  This will stabilise the satyagraha focussing on the main issue of corruption.

Nation is in no mood to accept one more scam.  Enough is enough.  Our younger generation should inherit a corruption free India.  I invite views from the members as to how we can achieve this.  .

Re: [India_Vision_2020] Anti-corruption mood of the nation - Govt.should shoot the message and not the messenger.

Dear Mr. Srinivasan and all readers,

It is a high time that every Indian in India and abroad speaks against of corruption, bribery and nepotism but I have not heard or seen anyone who speaks about these issues are practising in their own life.  People who speak about it must look at themselves whether they deserve to speak, whether they practise in their own life, whether there is any integrity, honesty and trasperancy in their life.  I would very strongly say that people who accept Rs. 5 as bribery to crores are the same because their intention is greediness.  Bribery is a bribery whether it is small or big.

Right from my childhood I developed that attitude because my father was a freedom fighter along with Thiru. K. Kamaraj, the then CM of Tamil Nadu.  After my higher education (M.A., M.Ed., in 1980s), I struggled to get a decent job in TN without giving bribery but I couldn't.  After much struggle, I ended up my life in Australia with a teaching job.  My knowledge and skills are recognised here, however, my feelings are still with India.

What Dr. Abdul Kalam has started now with the Young Minds should spread over speedily and fast in every nook and corner of India.  Then only we can see the clean, corruption-free, congenial India.  Otherwise ...

In fact, Baba Ram Dev is politicising and the political people are inciting and politising for power not really for the sake of India or a common Indian.  The words that I have expressed here are from my depth of my heart not from the lips.

Let us practise in our life a corruption-free, selfless sincere life.  JAI HIND!

Re: [India_Vision_2020] Anti-corruption mood of the nation - Govt.should shoot the message and not the messenger.

Dear Sri Srinivasan
We may remind ourselves of the oft-repeated definition of "Democracy" - Govt off the people, Govt far [from] the people and Govt [to] buy the people. Be it Manmohan [is he a self-styled non-corrupt!!] or any other who enters Parliament or any legislative body, thinks he/she has the right to do anything in the name of "lawfully elected member". The Govt / Parliament / Legislature consists of "elected members" - who can think of only their personal agenda. When this is not satisfied, they go berserk rampaging the country. And they term everybody - who wants a change in their approach to issues - anti-Govt, nay, anti-Democracy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No Anna can "shake" them!!!!!!!!!!!
Very unfortunate
The blue-collard society cannot fight. But, unfortunte, they can be "bought", The white-collard do not have time for all these. Most of them would not have seen a polling booth. The wealthy do not see eye to eye with each other and they are happy as long as their prayers are "answered" at "any cost"
The people get the Govt they deserve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where are we going?
Remember the story of an American, a Russian, an Indian asking Brahma, when his country would become great. Brahma cried, when he realised that even HE would not be alive to see India becoming great!!!
How strangely true!

I invite views from the members as to how we can achieve this.  .

Dear Mr. Srinivasan,

Thank u for ur eye-opener on Anti-Corruption mood of the public.  I have participated yesterday's Fasting at Youth Hostel, Indira Nagar, Chennai.  The overwhelming response of the people there right from students, men from all walks of life, women is a worthy cause.  I agree with you that the Anti-corruption leaders now should focus on "Corruption" but at the same time people should be made aware of the features of JAN LOK PAL Bill and the Govt's hesitation in agreeing to the inclusion of PM, Judges, Acts in Parliament by MPs. And in this context only, the leaders are addressing the people and Anna Team members like Mr.Arvind Khejriwal, Kiran Bedi & Bhushans have questioned the wisdom of the Govt. terming them as the front of RSS etc.

RE: [***Spam***](Suspicious Urls) [India_Vision_2020] Anti-corruption mood of the nation - Govt.should shoot the message and not the messenger.

Dear all

As per my opinion this all the activities which is done by government are not good right now, the Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare both are going on right way to educate all the Indian who are believe in honesty and hardworking to make India as a developed county up to 2020. Only education is the way to remove all the enemies from India.

Our overall system is not good for protecting over values in the international society. “Our future is depend on our system”   Single man cannot change the system, we are all responsible for this issue.

Thanks

Regards
