Re: [India_Vision_2020] Happy Independence Day. Remembering the UnSung heroes of freedom movement

Srinivasan:

Most inspiring story beautifully written...It should be part of school textbooks in TN and all over India....kindly send your piece to parliamentarians, legislators you know, and also to PMO. In fact, it will be wonderful if you can collect such accounts of unsung heroes in the various States and bring out a collection in the form of a book in English, Tamil and Hindi. For instance, I know Bengal had a similar unsung heroine Matangini Hazra who was shot dead by the police in 1942. The magistrate ordering the shooting was Anil Kumar Bhattacharya of the State Civil Service who, on India attaining freedom was denied promotion and retired as Sub-divisional Magistrate. He was SDM, Kurseong, when I was Sub-Collector, Darjeeling in 1953-55 and I tried with the government to rehabilitate him but the Congress Govt under B>C>Roy would have none of it. Public opinion against him was so strong -- poor man. He was so grateful to me and used to pour his out. So, I saw the other side also!

Unfortunately, nobody remembered him after independence.   When we wrote a cover story about him in August 2016, we found it difficult to get his photo also.

Today, only a few records have registerd his achievements.  With great effort, PreSense traced his only available photograph.

After independence, he returned to a quiet and simple life.  He refused the pension given to freedom fighters.  He died in 1999 at the age of 93.  It is also reported that he studied at National College, Tiruchi.

On this solmen occassion, let us remember Shri Arya Bhashyam and many such UnSung Heroes for their sacrifices  during freedom struggle.

Please read our cover story published in the August 2016 issue of our ezine PreSense.
