Hi
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted Indian tricolour in the Red Fort officially on 15th August 1947. Even before India got freedom, Shri Arya Bhashyam, an young freedom fighter from Chennai hoisted the tricolour in the prestigious Fort St. George way back in 1932. He removed the British Jack. He was jailed and punished heavily for his act.
Unfortunately, nobody remembered him after independence. When we wrote a cover story about him in August 2016, we found it difficult to get his photo also.
Today, only a few records have registerd his achievements. With great effort, PreSense traced his only available photograph.
After independence, he returned to a quiet and simple life. He refused the pension given to freedom fighters. He died in 1999 at the age of 93. It is also reported that he studied at National College, Tiruchi.
On this solmen occassion, let us remember Shri Arya Bhashyam and many such UnSung Heroes for their sacrifices during freedom struggle.
Please read our cover story published in the August 2016 issue of our ezine PreSense.
