[India_Vision_2020] Sansad Ratna Award 2012 presented to Mr Hansraj Ahir at Chandrapur

Dear friends

Prime Point Foundation and the ezine PreSense recognise top performing outstanding Parliamentarians every year with Sansad Ratna Award for the past three years, based on their performance in the Lok Sabha till the end of 31st March of that year.  Four MPs viz. Aandrao Adsul (Maharashtra), Hansraj Ahir (Maharashtra), S S Ramasubbu (Tamilnadu and Arjun Ram Meghwal (Rajasthan) were selected for the Sansad Ratna Award 2012.  The  function was held at IIT Madras in April 2012 and Mr Gopalakrishna Gandhi (grand son of Mahatma Gandhi and Rajaji), Former Governor of West Bengal presented the Awards to the MPs.  At that time, Mr Hansraj Ahir could not attend due to unforeseen circumstances.  He addressed the audience then over mobile from Nagpur.  At that time, we promised him that we would handover the Award in his constituency at a later date.

A function was organised at Chandrapur by the citizens of the city on 10th October 2012.  Mr Murugan Muthiah (Convenor of Action 2020) and myself visited Chandrapur and presented the Awards to Mr Hansraj Ahir in the presence of galaxy of eminent people of the city.  Nearly 1000 people attended the function.

Mr Shantaram Potdukhe, Former Minister and a  respected senior Congress Leader of Vidharba Region presided over the function, though Mr Hansraj is a BJP MP.  Many academicians and professionals participated in the event.  I could appreciate the highest political maturity shown by Vidharba Region leaders.  To add to the dignity, Mr Hansraj also touched the feet of Mr Shantaram seeking his blessings.

When I gave the introduction, I said that Maharashtra MPs put together performed well in the Lok Sabha during the current 15th Lok Sabha.  As against the national average of 244 points for the total of debates, questions, and private bills, Maharashtra MPs scored 378.3 till the end of Monsoon session.    I also said that till the end of monsoon session, the total score of debates, questions and private bills in the 15th Lok Sabha amounted to 1,16,698, as against the score of 1,03,712 for the whole five years of 14th Lok Sabha.  Within 3 years and that too with two sessions not functioning fully, this Lok Sabha has performed better than the previous Lok Sabha.

Mr Hansraj, while responding to the Award said that NGOs like Prime Point Foundation were continuously monitoring the performance of the MPs and hence the MPs were  under pressure to perform better in the Lok Sabha.  He also appreciated the recognition for performing MPs with Sansad Ratna Awards triggered the performance of the Parliamentarians and motivated them to do better.

It may be noted that Mr Hansraj Ahir is the whistle blower of the coal-scam, which is now rocking the country.  This is the third year in succession, he is getting the Award for outstanding performance in the Lok Sabha.
