Human body =Physical body + Subtle body
+ denotes silver cord. That is the Physical body and subtle body are connected by a silver cord while alive.
What is Physical death?
The separation of physical and subtle body when the silver cord gets broken or cut.
When does the silver cord get cut or physical death happen?
When the Astral karmas aka Pralabdha karmas becomes zero the silver cord gets cut or physical death happens.
Where did the physical body go after death?
After death the physical body gets burnt or buried.
The physical body went to dust after the subtle body (Astral body, mind,Causal body, soul) departed from the physical body after physical death ie Physical body merges with the pancha boothas when burnt.
The question is where does the subtle body go after the physical death ?
The departed subtle body contains 4 elements.
Astral body, mind, Causal body and soul.
Astral body
The soul in the subtle body after death of physical body goes to the Astral world - lower (hell) or higher (heaven) world depending on the karmas done in this birth.The soul uses the Astral body for sustenance in the Astral world as it uses the physical body for sustenance in this physical world.
Mind
If the desire or stored impression of the mind of the subtle body is to merge with the Lord at the time of physical death the soul merges with the Lord.
If not what happens. Let's talk about causal body to know this as the very name causal symbolises the causal body is the cause for next birth depending on the stored impression or vasana of the mind.
Causal body
It is a body which contains all the past karmas of previous births and this birth of the soul. ie Causal karmas aka sanchitha karma
When there is next birth for the departed soul in the subtle body?
If there are sanchitha karmas left in the departed causal body of the subtle body and when there are desires in the mind of the departed subtle body yes there is next birth for the departed soul in the subtle body.
The causal body is the cause of next birth. That's why it is called causal body.
The departed soul in the subtle body with same old causal body and new mind, new Astral body along with Pralabdha karma (a part of Sanchitha karma of old causal body becomes Pralabdha or Astral karmas) and new Physical body.
