[India_Vision_2020] High Court orders penalty to 2 IOB Managers

Hi all

For the past two years, we have many times discussed in the India Vision group about the scant respect given by the Bank Managers for education loan to meritorious poor students.  Education Loan Task Force (ELTF) had intervened in many cases by taking up the matter with RBI to get justice to such victims.

Many banks do not follow the RBI/IBA norms while sanctioning the loans.  They demand security even for loans upto 4 lakhs.  They insist on payment of interest every quarter.  They do not sanction or refuse the loan within the stipulated time of 30 days.  The refusals are not done with the approval of next higher authorities.

While, we can get the problems resolved with the public sector banks, the private banks never care for the society or even  to the authorities like RBI.  Even though, we have taken up with RBI several times, about the attitude of private banks, RBI is more lenient with private banks, for their own reasons.  We have observed, private banks seem to have no respect for RBI.

Though ELTF has been pointing out  several times the 'indifference of IOB' for the past two years to their Management,  the Bank has never shown any interest to rectify their deficiencies.  Today all the news papers have carried a news item about Madras High Court pulling up the bank officials for not processing the edu loan application for more than one year.  Besides, their arrogance has gone to the extent of not responding even to the High Court notices.

Please read the following story.

While these banks chase to fund thousands of crores of rupees to Mallyas of King Fisher and also  2G scam tainted companies, the sad reality is that they do not devote one - millionth of their attention to the meritorious poor students hailing from villages.

Let us wait and see whether IOB will change their attitude after this judgement or continue to remain 'insensitive and indifferent' to edu loan applicants and to the Hon'ble Courts.

If this trend continues among the pubic sector banks, the day is not far off the Chairman of the Banks and the RBI Governor will be ordered to appear before the Courts to give response.
