Hi all
India is a great and largest democracy in the world. While, even the small countries are not able to maintain their democracy, India has been successfully maintaining the democracy in the post independence era, braving all challenges.
In the democracy, the role of legislators become very important. There are many criticisms about the negative side of the legislative and parliamentary functioning and their members. At the same time, there are many legislators and Parliamentarians, who silently contribute to the Nation by participating in the House effectively and taking up the issues. Generally, they go unnoticed and unsung.
Keeping this in mind, Prime Point Foundation has been honouring the top performing Parliamentarians from 2009. We published a special issue of ezine PreSense titled 'Celebrate Democracy' in March 2009. In that issue, we featured 5 top performing Parliamentarians of 14th Lok Sabha and published their exclusive interviews.
In May 2010 and May 2011, we honoured personally the top performers of Loks Sabha Mr Anandrao Adsul, Mr Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, Mr S S Ramasubbu in the presence of galaxy of eminent persons of Chennai City. The purpose is to salute such good performers and to motivate others too.
Please visit our site www.sansadratna.in to look at the past events.
There are four important aspects, by which we can assess the performance of the MPs. (1) Questions raised by them during the Question Hour, (2) Debates participated (bills, budget discussions, issues under Rule 377, 193, zero hour discussions, etc), (3) Introduction of Private Member bills and (4) Attendance.
From the data released by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, till now, the following four MPs have done excellently well.
1. Mr Hansraj Gangaram Ahir (BJP MP) - No 1 in introduction of Private Bills
2. Mr Anandrao Adsul, )Shiv Sena MP) - No 1 in raising Questions. (He was No 1 in 14th Lok Sabha also)
3. Mr Arun Ram Megwal (BJP MP) - No 1 in Debates and 100% attendance
4. Mr S S Ramasubbu (Cong MP) - No 1 in Tamilnadu in all areas.
We will be honouring them with 'Sansad Ratna Award' on 14th April 2012 jointly with Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai. Mr Gopalakrishna Gandhi (Former West Bengal Governor and the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and Rajaji) will preside over the function.
During this occassion, we will also have a National Seminar on 'Youth in Politics and Governance' to create awareness among the students and youth about the Parliamentary system and Governance.
If any member of the group wants to draw the attention of the Lok Sabha through MPs on any issue of public importance, please send a brief note in a single page with full details and contact numbers and address. We will handover your note to the Hon'ble MPs personally during the Award function. Depending on the merit of the issue, they will take up in the appropriate forum. Please send the note before 9th April 2012.
