[India_Vision_2020] One time measure by the Govt. to claim the pending Edu Loan interest subsidy from 1.4.2009 to 31.3.2014 - Please share [1 Attachment]

[Attachment(s) from Education Loan Task Force ELTF included below]

hi

Government of India MHRD has permitted all banks to submit  the  old pending claims in respect of ALL THE ELIGIBLE unclaimed cases [including SC/ST and General Category] for the period from the year 01.04.2009 to 31.03.2014 as a one time measure.  This will be the final chance.

Indian Banks' Association has issued a circular to all the banks on 26th August 2015.  ELTF understands from the Chief General Manager of Canara Bank, the Nodal Bank, that the portal will be open for submission of claims from 1st Sep 2015 to 15th Sep 2015.  Copy of IBA notification is attached.

All the eligibile Education Loan borrowers for whom interest subsidy has not been claimed properly in the past may immediately approach their bank manager and submit a letter in writing to them requesting the bank to submit the claim to the Nodal Bank taking advantage of the one time measure.  There are lots of complaints from students that the interest subsidy have not been claimed properly by branch managers.  ELTF has also taken up  this issue in the Parliament through our supporting MPs.

This is a great opportunity for all the banks and students to resolve the interest subsidy issue.

If the Branch Managers do not cooperate or behave indifferently, the students may give complaint to the Chairman of the concerned Bank, under copy to Indian Banks' Association.

ELTF requests you to kindly share this information with all the eligible students.  We also request media to give publicity to this notification,  so that poor students avail the opportunity.

[India_Vision_2020] Fwd: AADHAR card not mandatoy for processing / sanction of Education Loans

hi

With further reference to my earlier mail, I have just now received additional clarification from Shri Unnikrishnan, Deputy Chief Executive of Indian Banks' Association (IBA).  His mail is appended below for information of members.

If any Bank Manager refuses to process the Education Loan application for want of Aadhar Card, the matter may be brought to the knowledge of higher authorities.  However, the students should give undertaking to the Bank as per their requirement.  They should also apply and get the Aadhar Card before the completion of the course.

Hi

We are receiving complaints that some of the banks are not processing / sanctioning the Education loan applications if the applicants do not submit the AADHAR card.  When we sought clarification from the Nodal Bank Canara Bank, Shri Badrinath, AGM, Canara Bank Head Office has responded to us quoting IBA guidelines.  From these guidelines, it is clear that Aadhar cards are not mandatory for processing the education loan applications. Response from Canara Bank:

quote

IBA Mumbai during the revision of Education loan scheme guidelines had advised banks to Obtain UID number issued by  UIDAI ( Aadhaar ) to the students and note the same in the System.

Accordingly we had  issued guidelines to the branches to prevail upon the students to submit the PAN/AADHAAR card particulars before completion of the course.

Wherever a student is not having UID number, branches are advised to obtain undertaking letter from the student for submission at a later specified date. However, the disbursement in subsequent years should not be stopped for the said reason. The same should be followed up till submission for noting in records.

From the above , it is clear that obtention of AADHAAR card is neither mandatory nor a condition for sanction of loan.

Education Loan borrowers - An important announcement

Nodal Bank Canara Bank has opened the portal for submission of interest subsidy claims for the year 2014-15. The portal will be open till 25th August 2015. Bank Branches have to submit the claim to Canara Bank claiming 100% interest subsidy charged by them during 2014-15. Due to lethargy / lack of knowledge of many bank managers, many students have been deprived of the eligible interest subsidy. All eligible students who have availed education loan under IBA Scheme from the Banks may immediately contact the branch manager and give a letter to them in writing requesting them to submit the claim to Canara Bank. Though it is the duty of the Bank Manager, to avoid any confusion, I am suggesting the student borrowers or parents to submit a letter. Please also send a copy of the letter to the Regional Manager concerned and to their Head Office. Any claims submitted after 25th August 2015 will not be processed by the nodal bank.

Please share this with your contacts.
