Friends,
Over the last 1 month, I have been actively involved with my friends in setting up the North South Foundation (NSF) chapter in Grand Rapids, MI.
NSF (
www.northsouth.org) is an Indian NGO that conducts contests like - Math Bee, Vocabulary Bee, and Spelling Bee etc for Indian Kids in USA & Canada. Last year about 5000 participated from the 60 odd chapters in US & Canada.
Part of the contest registration fee is used to provide scholarships to the most deserving students in India when they are ready to enter in college. Since its inception in 1989, NSF has sponsored scholarships to more than 3000 students and many of them are now in very good position and helping others like them to get the gift of education.
The best part of this foundation is that it serves dual purpose. One is to promote our kids knowledge and two to support the noble cause of scholarship.
The contest are NOT for Ranking BUT for Learning and also to support a bigger cause back home. Also, every kid is a winner by sheer participation alone for the positive difference they are making to themselves (by learning) and to the meritorious students in India.
For more information, please visit
www.northsouth.org. It will be great if more and more good souls take this up and initiate a chapter in their area. If there is a NSF chapter already, it will be a great thing to volunteer for some of their activities.

Venki
