Dear All Today is a landmark day as "The Right to Education" bill formally comes into effect 8 AM. Though bill has been in discussion for years, after landmark SC judgement in 1993, finally was passed Aug 2009. Irrespective of which govt passed, its an essential step towards achieving universal primary education. And it would be a lame argument to say this is a bad step and I do not believe thats the perception too.But yes, as with any legislation, there are glaring loop holes. Dedicated educationists & NGO's have expressed various reservations with many of its provisions. The bill merits in its own way a very healthy debate leading to even better lives for the children of India. But we have to acknowledge the fact that enshrining the "Right to education" as a fundamental right is in the right spirit !!Here is bill in its official gazette :We sincerely hope this will trigger a lot more activity in the education. This might be a good foundation, but definitely all of us will have to work with the Govt, people & NGO's to achieve the goal ! And more work needs to be done for secondary & higher education. All of them should be DONE in one GO !! That would mean spending atleast 6% of GDP for education. Given India's growth rate that would be achievable !Lets hope this will reflect good for future of India ! All of us will be looking forward and working towards achieving a fully literateIndia !! Would not be an exaggeration to say(In NRN's words) "A better India, better world " RegardsSIvanarayanan
