I have given the title as 3rd war of Independence. Our Independence struggle under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi was the first war. The Second war is getting back the democracy, after the emergency period during 1975, under the leadership of Great Jayaprakash Narayan, another Gandhian. Now, the current struggle to end corruption in India, under the leadership of another Gandhian Anna Hazare is the third ward of independence.
Many media are referring the current struggle as the 2nd war of Independence. If we continue to mention this, we will be doing great injustice to the leaders like Jayaprakash Narayan and others, who struggled to get back the democracy after the dark days of Emergency. In view of this, we will mention the current struggle only as 3rd War of Indpendence.
Today (8th April), many citizens came to street, in support of Anna Hazare. I find the participation by youngsters are more.
Even in Chennai, there were protests at different places. Our India Vision Group and Action 2020 members also joined the protests.
Many youngsters of age group of less than 25, were also fasting for the day, in support of the movement. Today evening, I met one small little girl 'Anjana' at the protest meeting at Chennai. Anjana has just now completed Plus Two and awaiting results. When she saw Anna Hazare on TV for the first time on 6th April (one day after he started his fast), she also started fasting at home. Anjana told her mother, "When Anna Sahib is fasting, how can I take food. I am also joining his fast for the sake of India". Because, this little girl started fasting, the entire family is fasting for the past two days.
This is the spontaneous reaction from the youth of this country. I was really proud of this little girl and her family.
As I am writing this mail, i got the information that an agreement is reached and Anna Hazare would be ending his fast on Saturday morning, after receiving the notification.
The youth power of this country has won the first round. Media, particularly Television Media Channels have played a greater role in this promoting this mass movement.
The war against corruption is not over. This is only the first round. We need to take it forward to completely eradicate corruption.
