[India_Vision_2020] Inspiring story of a Chennai lady flying to join IAC movement at Delhi

hi all

After I posted the first message about the Lokpal bill and the movement, we received lot of responses from many members.  As many of the mails contained only solidarity with the movement, we did not release all the mails in the group.  Anna Hazare's fast at Delhi has generated lot of interest among youth across the nation and Indians living abroad.

At last, Chennai citizens also joined the national movement today evening by gathering at Marina Beach and also at Thakkar Bapa Vidyalaya (an institute started by Mahatma Gandhi).  Meanwhile, I have also come across the story of a senior lady (member of India Vision  group) flying to Delhi to be part of the movement.

Mrs Vasantha Krishnaswamy (age 69), a retired Principal of a leading School in Chennai was concerned over the growing corruption reports in India.  Almost from Feb 1, 2011, she jotted down many of our her concerns in her diary and she wanted to write to President and Prime Minister about her concern towards increasing corruption.  She also wanted to sit alone in silence under the feet of Mahatma Gandhi statue in Marina Beach and plead with Mahatma to save our country.  Since she is already 69 and none came forward to be with her, she was unable to decide on sitting under the feet of Mahatma. She had sleepless nights about the increasing corruption trend, that was hurting the nation.

Meanwhile, Anna Hazare started the fast on 5th April.  She was waiting for the movement to start at Chennai   Though, the people at other parts of the country have joined this movement, Chennai was silent.  Since there was no sign of any programme to show solidarity at Chennai till this morning, suddenly she took the decision of boarding the Delhi flight at 11.40 am today morning.  She is new to Delhi and she does not have any friends or relatives at Delhi.

Her willpower to fight against the corruption gave her enough courage.  After landing at Delhi, she took a taxi and reached Jantar Mantar and joined thousands of other citizens around 3 pm today.  At the time of writing this mail, I called her up to find out the developments.

Mrs Vasantha told me over mobile that she was also fasting along with Anna Hazare and thousands of other people.  She is spending the night at Jantar Mantar along with other lady members.  She told me that she would be on fast till tomorrow evening and return to Chennai tomorrow night.  She will also participate in the public meeting to be held at Chennai on Sunday 10th April at Thakkar Bapa Vidyalaya and share her experience.

This is only tip of the iceberg.  There are thousands of people like Mrs Vasantha, who have joined the movement silently.  This incident shows how ordinary citizens of India are worried over this growing corruption in India.

Together let us show solidarity with Anna Hazare to fight against the corruption in India.
