dear all
Recently, Government of India introduced a new scheme of providing 'Aadhaar' (Unique Identification Number) to all the residents of this country. Aadhaar in many Indian languages means 'foundation' or 'base'. In due course, this Aadhaar will be used for many utilities. This Aadhaar is being provided by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
Now UIDAI has started providing Unique Identification Numbers to the residents. They have also appointed many registrars (which includes Banks) to provide Aadhaar free of cost. Anybody desirous of getting Aadhaar. have to approach any of the registrars with proof of their age and residence. Biometric identifications (thumb impression and iris of the eye) are stored in the computers of UIDAI along with the facial photograph.
Based on the application, the resident is provided with an Unique Identification Number. They have provided all the details in their site http://www.uidai.gov.in/
In order to get basic information about Aadhaar, I interviewed Mr K K Sharma, Asst. Director General of UIDAI. Please listen to his podcast interview in the following link:
