Subject: [India_Vision_2020] Alex Paul kidnap by Naxals - Lessons to be learnt

hi all

When Alex Paul Menon's family rejoices after his release today, the family members of two security personnel who lost their lives to save Alex Paul are weeping.  Neither the media nor the family members of Alex Paul have talked about this.  They all prayed for safe return of Alex Paul.  They never prayed God to rest these two souls in peace.  Probably, these two lives belong to poor class and not an IAS cadre,

The family members of Alex Paul Menon and his wife have been giving interviews in the TVs for the past ten days that there were naxal threats and even their friends advised Alex Paul to be careful.  Even the family members have cautioned him. Definitely, Intelligent Department also would have given him the full details.  Even the Central and State Governments have issued guidelines to the District level officers affected by Maoist problems.

Alex Paul may be an honest officer with all enthusiasm. We are not questioning his honest and integrity.   He was fully aware of the hostage crisis that had happened at that time in his neighbouring state Odisha.  Naxal groups had kidnapped Italian tourists and one MLA.  The Central Government and State Governments were struggling to manage the crisis at the time, when he decided to visit the Naxal affected village.

In spite of all the cautions and happenings, Alex Paul has taken an irresponsible decision of visiting a naxal area without proper escorts. Even reports suggest that he used to travel by scooter alone.   In the process, two security staff were killed.  He was taken as hostage.

The family members and the media were pressuring the Government to save Alex Paul at any cost.  This has put both the Centre and Chattisgarh State in an embarrassing situation.  Finally, they have to negotiate on the table and under the table to get him released.

Finally he has been released today.  We are extremely happy that a good IAS Officer has been released unhurt.  But at the same time, we cannot ignore the fact that such adventurous, foolish  and irresponsible actions, violating the guidelines, may cause more harm to the nation.  It may even demotivate other officers to work in Naxal affected areas.

At least in future, the officials posted in the sensitive areas should act in a responsible manner, without showing their adventurism, to avoid such crisis and embarrassment to the nation.

When Rajiv Gandhi was killed, around 12 Police Officers died along with him.  Till date nobody talks about the family members of these dedicated security officials.  Their family members are suffering.  In the same way, everybody talks about Alex Paul.  Two poor souls who lost their lives to save Alex Paul are totally forgotten.   It is sad and unfortunate  that even the family members of Alex Paul have not remembered them.

Let us  remember their great sacrifice to the Nation.  Let their souls rest in peace.  Our members in Chattisgarh can take up our sentiments with concerned officials to get some relief to the family members of two security personnel.

It is also very unfortunate that Alex Paul is hailed as a hero, for his foolish and irresponsible acts, costing the nation heavily.
