Friends:

There is a saying "o! Democracy. You are imperfect. But what is my alternative?.Prof Earnest Barker of Oxford calls Democracy as revolution by consent. Parliament in a Democracy is the real Lokpal. it is another story that the fence is eating the crop away. look at legislaturs around the world and you will see they are full of members who are  driven by self interest, involved in using politics for personal gain.

When democratic institutions like Legislatures get debased, extra legislative action comes to the fore. The Wall Street protests,Anna movement are such manifestations. world wide surveys of people's trust in various political institutions show that people have lost faith and confidence in politics and politicians and public institutions. Even trust and respect for media is very low. Only the Judiciary fares better.

The people of India had invested enormous trust bordering on veneration in the political system and politicians soon after Independence. This lasted until the 1980s- Bofors was a turning point when Indians began doubting the national leaders; state leaders had lost their mandate and respect much earlier. The opening up of the economy has been accompanied by political cronyism and personal aggrandizement. Politics and power are  becoming a family property.

People even now turn up to vote, that shows that people have still faith in the system but such mandates are getting abused. Surprisingly few political parties and their leaders are ready to lead and win back the respect of the people. Here we are dealing with IMAGE and REPUTATION of politics as a mediator of democracy. Politics needs to be rescued from becoming the refuge of scoundrels and only politicians can do this. So long as they display injured innocence, they are letting down democracy,

Sir,

Very well said. I totally agree with your thinking and words.

I do feel postitive - constructive ideas alone will always work.  Always finding fault and blaming without giving alternate solution will only mar the Institutions and the elected representative psychologially.  When we are not  blaming the people for their mistake of the wrong selection during election, blamming the elected representative is not justifiable.  Elected people  represents us, the true representative of us - both in mind and action  and will be like us only.

Before finding fault with anyone in public life, we - everyone must have self realisation on our words and deeds.  Self accountabilty is the only way to find solution. Are every one of us have the same? Anti-Curruption and discipline must start with every one not from the top.  It has to start from the root and from everyone at individual level.  It has to be a way of life and not to be practiced in the words of mouth.

As long as,  chasing and running after money  has become our way life now a days, there is no remedy.  We must fix the ceiling (not just the Land ceiling Act - whether it has gone or in existence?) to every one -both in mind and by law  to lead a - contented life - with minimum things needed for the simple life  - not to grab the others resourses.  We must put a prohibiting stop in accumulating wealth and building assets to every one - not only to politician -to  all individual and even to the corporates. All citizens must be allowed in getting minimum need for a respectable life.

We  must feel,  learn and teach our wards that having more than the need - ie - accomulating wealth is an offence as  is depriving fellow men's share of this country.   Indian resourses are for entire Indians. Having more share than the others has to be made  a punishable affence as he is swindling the rights and privilages of the fellow citizen's.   Unless the check is ensured and ceiling is fixed and maintained both in mind and by law no agitation for Corruption and cleanin politics will find good results.

Lets hope we will find a solution and justice to everyone to live respectable living in this country without disparties.  That day only we can speak of the the Elected.
