suyam, one of the partner groups of Action 2020 is working for the benefit of street children. On the recent Independence day, they helped 15 families who were involved in street begging, to acquire autorickshaws through THADCO. Please read the note sent to me personally by Mr Muthuraman, co-founder of Suyam. India Vision Group and Action 2020 team proudly congratulates the Suyam team and the beneficiaries for taking up a new and dignfied life.

Would like to share with you about our long time dream came true – Community
development activities.
Begging to Best Practices
Suyam (www.suyam.org) identified 50 families in the year 1999 who involved in begging
for the past 4 decades. Taken a documentary movie NADAIPADHAI POOKKAL and
taken a oath that Suyam will work hard to rehabilitate them so that pavement stones can
nourish like pavement flowers. After 4 years of awareness, they realized the important of
education and motivated us to start a school. Siragu Montessori School (www.siragu.org)
started in 2003 with 34 children 12km near Avadi and now school providing free
education 400 more children.
Community Development Activity under SEP (Suyam Empowerment Program)
On our motivation, families were given their begging but looking out for a alternative
earning sources or livelihood sources for them. Further, counseled them and kindled
their skills and many youngsters learnt auto driving and for the past 5 years tried to
identify donors to get their support and pay down payment to financier to get them a auto
loan. But our efforts gone in vain.
We didn't given up our spirit, through a well wisher we got to know about TAHDCO –
Tamiladu Adi Dravida Housing Development Corporation. Met the MD who is an IAS
officer, when we expressed our interest in support the families rescued from begging, he
told us to submit relevant papers of people who wish to opt for auto loan and within two
weeks he will grant the loan.
Worked with full spirit, entire TAHDCO department well co-operated, within 3 weeks, with
the blessings of Universe, 15 families got sanctioned subsidized loan. TAHDCO granted
a loan amount of Rs.23.94 lakhs with low interest rate out of which 3.75 lakhs is subsidy
grant (each beneficiary get 25000 subsidy).
On 15th August, at Siragu Campus, distributed 3 wheeler autorickshaws to 12 families
and TATA magic 4 wheelers to 3 families.
Suyam stand as a guarantor and responsible for repayment of loan to TAHDCO by
collecting the monthly contribution from the beneficiaries.
We are very happy to share with you that our long time dream come true and 15 families
are proud owners of their vehicles, a new avenue to earn and now no need to stretch
their hands to beg but with their hard work and promptly repay the loan, more other
families also will get support in future.
We feel it is our duty to let u know what's happening in Suyam becos every one of you
guiding us and supporting us in any forms.
