University of Delaware Faculty discuss the importance, the scope and the application of postcolonial theory and its importance to American education. The participants in the dialogue include Dr. Neepa Acharya and Dr. Daniel Green from the Department of Political Science and Internationals, Dr. Sabrin Beg from the Department of Economics and Dr. Vikramaditya Thakur from the Department of Anthropology. The discussion's point of departure is Dr. Leela Gandhi's book, Postcolonial Theory: A Critical Introduction. This Khanversation was recorded for use in Dr. Khan's class on Contemporary Political Ideologies.. It is available to public and other academics who wish to use it in their classrooms.

The questions addressed include what are philosophical foundations of postcolonial theory? What is its agenda? Is postcolonial theory even possible if the main proponents are coopted in the Western academy? What are tensions between postcolonial theory and poststructuralism? How deep are the quarrels between theorists who are based in the former colonies and those who teach in the universities in the former colonial powers?
