[India_Vision_2020] Representation to the concerned GOI revenue authorities from Nishabdha Seva

Things to ponder

New rules to NGOs as per
Finance Act 2020-21 Amendments effective 1 October 2020.

All NGOs registered under Section 12AA will have to reapply for registration under the Income Tax Act to continue to avail tax exemptions. The new rules as per Finance Act 20-21 amendments also say that these organisations will have to renew their registration every five years. Earlier such organisations were granted 12AA registration on a permanent basis.

My Question - How renewal of registration every five years is going to increase transparency in any way?

New tax regime for individuals as per Budget 2020

Under the new tax regime, most exemptions available in the old regime (including that for donations) are no longer allowed. Many expect that going forward, the new tax regime with no exemptions could very well become the norm. Is this true? Are 80G exemptions useless?

Question - How will NGOs get donations?

NGOs at the forefront - Covid 19.

Shameless GOI and GOT beg NGOs to help during a crisis without funding the NGOs . NGOs are at the forefront across PAN India in providing help and support to needy - Covid 19 lockdown. It is imperative to emphasise, and not just during Covid-19, that NGOs have played a critical role in times of emergencies. Their role in alleviating hardships faced by the most underprivileged people in the country is well known.

Therefore, it is hoped that the government continues to value and recognise the critical role that NGOs play in our society. While its move to defer the date of 12AA renewal from June to October 2020 is welcome, what is even more necessary is that it reconsiders the amendments so as to make the regulatory environment more enabling for NGOs.

Thanks and regards
