Meanwhile, we will be happy if you could kindly spare 3 minutes and give your views in the survey posted in the following link:
Background of the event for information
1. On 24th April 2009, former Indian President Dr Abdul Kalam travelled to US in the American Airline 'Continental Airlines'. As per the Indian Government guidelines, the former Presidents of India and former Prime Ministers are not to be frisked in Indian Airports. When Dr Kalam boarded the flight, he was made to wait in aerobridge and frisked (including body check and removal of shoes like any other passenger) by Airline Officials. It is also reported that Indian Security officials informed the Airline Officials that he was the former President and exempt from the frisking in Indian airports. Airline officials debated within themselves, keeping Dr Kalam in waiting and finally decided to frisk him. Dr Kalam cooperated with them and boarded the flight.
2. On 9th July 2009, Indian Government issued Show Cause Notice to the Airline as to why they violated the Indian rules in Indian Airport. The Airline did not respond to the Government.
3. On 21st July morning, the information was broke in all the TV media. There was an uproar in Indian Parliament. The Airlines was accused of humiliating an Indian respected leader. The Government promised action against the Airline company. Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Airline Company and one more Senior Official of the Company issued a Press Note stating that as per their company rules they frisked Dr Kalam. They also said in their press note that did not show discrimination for any VIPs or VVIPs.
4. On the same day i.e. 21st July 2009, the Indian Government filed a Police complaint against the Airline Officials for violating the Indian guidelines in Indian airport. This may lead to an imprisonment of 6 months with a penalty of one million rupees.
5. On 22nd July 2009 (today) morning, the Airline Company reversed their previous day stand and apologised for their action for frisking Dr Abdul Kalam. Further action from the Government is awaited.
