[India_Vision_2020] Micro school

Dear Friends,

We are working in the area of underprivileged and drop out children, who get into deviant behaviour and labour. We are trying to create opportunities in rural areas to improve the quality of education,
to help children learn and not just attend or drop out of schools.

Early Childhood education of excellent quality leads a child to explore and find itself oppportunities and propel itself into a learning mode, inspite of the discrepancies in day to day living. We have now an Entreprenuer model, which permits starting a pre-primary school in a village, and make full utilisation of the space in the balance 55 % of the time to make it a revenue model.

We have this one pilot at Vichur, an interior village off Chennai, the parents are paying about Rs 50 per month.  We have developed a plan for this year -step 1 - training graduates in existing private poor schools, or enterpreneurs willing to begin their own school. This is in association with Navadisha Montessori Institute (www.navadisha.org) . It is an International Diploma, and there will be a bridge class program to hand hold those who may other wise not qualify to enter this course. I am inviting all I know to explore this possibility, and raise the standard of education in a semi urban, rural area. There is a cost component needed to be paid by the candidate, however loan can be arranged if it is going to be an entreprenuer model.

Last year we offered a one-week training program, it was only a teaspoon of information of the curriculum. After tracking the trainees, I was able to see that it has not captured the potential of children and there needs to be a full fledged training program with a rigour of International standards. Dr.Maria Montessori's  Organisation AMI from Netherlands was here and they are keen on stepping up the Montessori movement in India. We proposed this model - 4 months bridge course + 8 months of their course, to complete a rigourous package of training for an International Diploma. This could be justified in a way that it is like a B.Ed for preprimary segment which is so crucial for the children's holistic development and thereby equitable communities, and intelligenstia in the rural areas too.

We need more teachers with training in the primary class segment too, and as of now, the training course has not yet come fully to India. Lets see when it does.

Thanks and regards
Vidya Shankar
