Re: [India_Vision_2020] Mahatma Gandhi birthday - World Non violence day

Hello Sir,

Its really mind blowing to see how during pre-independence our national leaders communicated messages across the country to every nook and corner.

In my opinion this was possible mainly because there was huge group of news "Seekers"!
Majority of the population were waiting very eagerly to know these messages from our leaders. They went looking for the news, as in buying newspapers , gathering to listen radio etc.

However in today's world the information is thrown at the user. The interest of what needs to be published or what needs to be the head lines , which news should be made most sensational etc is decided in a business perspective.

Also now a days the problems and issues are very generic and too many in number. But in those days the only issue was freedom fight. So there was more focused approach from the audience and they were clear on what they wanted to know from the media.

I opine that the focused news seeking approach of the audience during the pre-independence period was the essential reason for efficient penetration of news from the national leaders regarding freedom struggle.

Thanks and regards
Jayasree

dear friends

Today (2nd Oct) is the birth day of Mahatma Gandhi. Almost all the Televisions and Media n India have been recalling the memories of Indian freedom movement.

Just now, I was watching 'Gandhi' film telecast by a channel.  I was just thinking, how in the vast country like India, Mahatma Gandhi and other freedom fighters were spreading the freedom message and mobilised the people against the British for getting freedom, through non-violent methods and  non-cooperation.

Presently, as communicators, we find it difficult to communicate a message with all the communication gadgets and facilities.  In those days, (before 1947), there were only few print media and radio.  The entire message of freedom campaign could reach the entire country successfully and involve them.

I feel the sincerity and effectiveness of the message are  the core reason for the success of the entire campaign.

I welcome members to share their views
