Re: [India_Vision_2020] How to improve driving discipline? - It is all about Bangalore

Hi Ravikumar,

Good thoughts.

I also have been having the same thoughts on how do we educate people. couple of weeks back I found something really good. I saw a car going before my car which had a nice sticker put at the back window. "I am a responsible motorist in Bangalore and I take a vow to follow all traffic rules... Do you?"

Just someone had shared a thought loud. Any sensible person driving behind this car would follow rules and lane discipline.

There is no one single thing that could solve the problem of traffic. 90% of the traffic problems are created by undisciplined driving. It just needs awareness of driving discipline to people. One of the most common mistakes I see people doing is if they see that the traffic has halted and no vehicles are coming in the opposite direction then they don't realize there a jam down the line which is getting cleared. They just drive on the empty road and block the opposite traffic and cause a big jam.

The vehicle population in Bangalore has increased exponentially and everyone needs to understand that they no longer have the luxury of reaching office in 10 - 15 mins. It would take time. Every other person on the road also have the same level of urgency to reach. Just a little bit of patience would help. But the problem often happens is how can we tell people about it.

It should be something like "I Believe in Bangalore Ad" which had hoardings all over the city. Which tells most common mistakes people make and tell how to avoid it.

There is OOH LCD tv's placed in restaurants and many corporate offices. There could be ad clippings put here as well and people do see it.

There may be more bright ideas as well.

But this is definitely something worth attempting for and see if it makes a difference.

Dear All,

There are many major problems going on in our country, however I want to bring few problems, which can be resolved by all citizens easily and 90% of the bangalorians face this problem every working day without fail.

This is my personal experience. I stay at Marathalli, Bangalore and I drive to my office at C V Raman Nagar everyday.
  • School children struggling to cross the road. It is like, they take 3 steps forward and 2 steps backward, after many attempts, they would cross the road.
  • No one wants to stop their vehicle and allow the kids to cross the road.
  • There are speed breakers, but that doesn't control anyone
  • At Marathalli Junction, there is no signal stop for pedestrians to cross the road. Everytime, everyone needs to take a challenge to cross the road.
  • When I see the old people are putting lots of efforts to cross the road and fear in them, I could not control myself.
  • Most of the Traffic Jams are due to not following basic driving discipline and traffic rules.
  • Bangalore has very bad infrastructure due to sudden growth of population and one of the main reason is IT professionals (including me), but most of the traffic jams are due to not following traffic rules and basic driving discipline.
Many of us want to do something, but don't know how to contribute to improve the infrastructure. Everyone gets irritate and waste lots of time in Traffic, but many don't want to follow the traffic discipline and go where ever they get way.

You might have seen this problem all over India. How do we bring the basic discipline in everyone. What we young guys should do?. There are many movies and advertisements, but that don't help.

I see the same problems everyday and there is no one is to care or improve the situation. We do ask our self, who is the culprit for all these problems and why we can't have a peaceful life.

Is there anything we can do, that could teach everyone?. Do we need to record video of every traffic jam and root cause, then brodcast on every TV channel to bring more awareness to people.

Do we need to wait for govt to take action?. Or Do we need to live like this?
