RE: [India_Vision_2020] How to improve driving discipline? - It is all about Bangalore

I am frustrated with very indisciplined driving back home. Many literate, well settled people behave surprizingly rough on roads. Many govt vehicles, including police officers' vehicles do not follow normal driving rules at zebra crosses and signals. Driving improvement awareness programmes- raising awareness through local small programmes- like ganesh festival, schools/colleges ect might be an option. I think the current generation, who has already learnt its way of driving on road will be less to influence, may be teaching new generation at school and colleges, showing them an accident stasistics, noise polution ect mihgt make some positive changes.

Subject: [India_Vision_2020] How to improve driving discipline? - It is all about Bangalore

Dear All,

There are many major problems going on in our country, however I want to bring few problems, which can be resolved by all citizens easily and 90% of the bangalorians face this problem every working day without fail.

This is my personal experience. I stay at Marathalli, Bangalore and I drive to my office at C V Raman Nagar everyday.
  • School children struggling to cross the road. It is like, they take 3 steps forward and 2 steps backward, after many attempts, they would cross the road.
  • No one wants to stop their vehicle and allow the kids to cross the road.
  • There are speed breakers, but that doesn't control anyone
  • At Marathalli Junction, there is no signal stop for pedestrians to cross the road. Everytime, everyone needs to take a challenge to cross the road.
  • When I see the old people are putting lots of efforts to cross the road and fear in them, I could not control myself.
  • Most of the Traffic Jams are due to not following basic driving discipline and traffic rules.
  • Bangalore has very bad infrastructure due to sudden growth of population and one of the main reason is IT professionals (including me), but most of the traffic jams are due to not following traffic rules and basic driving discipline.
Many of us want to do something, but don't know how to contribute to improve the infrastructure. Everyone gets irritate and waste lots of time in Traffic, but many don't want to follow the traffic discipline and go where ever they get way.

You might have seen this problem all over India. How do we bring the basic discipline in everyone. What we young guys should do?. There are many movies and advertisements, but that don't help.

I see the same problems everyday and there is no one is to care or improve the situation. We do ask our self, who is the culprit for all these problems and why we can't have a peaceful life.

Is there anything we can do, that could teach everyone?. Do we need to record video of every traffic jam and root cause, then brodcast on every TV channel to bring more awareness to people.

Do we need to wait for govt to take action?. Or Do we need to live like this?
