Re: [India_Vision_2020] How to improve driving discipline? - It is all about Bangalore

Dear all,

I would like to mention the following facts

Problems:
1. Most of the drivers in our nation do not know what is defensive driving skill and what are the driving rules applicable to them. Nor they get the opportunity to learn this.
2. Even if you do not know all the driving rules you can get a license in our nation.
3. Expansion of roads are not taking in a proportionate pace with increase in number of vehicles on the road.
4. There is no efficient public transport like in Japan - This forces everyone to buy their own vehicle for their daily transport to office. End result of this is chaos on the road with too many vehicles blocking the not to broad road.

Solutions would be:
1. People while getting their driving licence if they are given training in all aspects needed for a good road behaviour will solve half of the problems faced.
2. People to be given training class on road rules & defensive driving for at least three days before they get licence. They have to take written test, only if they pass it, they  be given licence. The investment is high but it pays back on decreasing the number of precious lives lost on the road,
3. There are number of hawkers and shops which come up on the road sides. These block the road available for the vehicles. A stern policy to prevent these encroachers will do help in streamlining the traffic.

End result:
If these small steps are taken, we all can enjoy saving our precious life and time.

Hi,

I accept the points mentioned by Ravikumar. Unless if we have the self discipline we can't improve the nation.
We have to follow the rules and regulations. But people who are literate or illeterate, both of them are doing the same mistake. People always in hurry mood. So it is our duty to follow the rules. Most important "Self Discipline is Must"

Dear All,

There are many major problems going on in our country, however I want to bring few problems, which can be resolved by all citizens easily and 90% of the bangalorians face this problem every working day without fail.

This is my personal experience. I stay at Marathalli, Bangalore and I drive to my office at C V Raman Nagar everyday.

  • School children struggling to cross the road. It is like, they take 3 steps forward and 2 steps backward, after many attempts, they would cross the road.
  • No one wants to stop their vehicle and allow the kids to cross the road.
  • There are speed breakers, but that doesn't control anyone
  • At Marathalli Junction, there is no signal stop for pedestrians to cross the road. Everytime, everyone needs to take a challenge to cross the road.
  • When I see the old people are putting lots of efforts to cross the road and fear in them, I could not control myself.
  • Most of the Traffic Jams are due to not following basic driving discipline and traffic rules.
  • Bangalore has very bad infrastructure due to sudden growth of population and one of the main reason is IT professionals (including me), but most of the traffic jams are due to not following traffic rules and basic driving discipline.
Many of us want to do something, but don't know how to contribute to improve the infrastructure. Everyone gets irritate and waste lots of time in Traffic, but many don't want to follow the traffic discipline and go where ever they get way.

You might have seen this problem all over India. How do we bring the basic discipline in everyone. What we young guys should do?. There are many movies and advertisements, but that don't help.

I see the same problems everyday and there is no one is to care or improve the situation. We do ask our self, who is the culprit for all these problems and why we can't have a peaceful life.

Is there anything we can do, that could teach everyone?. Do we need to record video of every traffic jam and root cause, then brodcast on every TV channel to bring more awareness to people.

Do we need to wait for govt to take action?. Or Do we need to live like this?
