dear friends
I started podcasting from July 2008. Now that we have completed two years, i wanted to look back and see how the podcasts have been listened. The data brought out interesting trend.
Presently, I upload the audio and video podcasts in three major podcast servers. (1) Podbazaar (since July 2006), (2) You Tube (since Sep 2006) and (3) Blip.tv (since Mar 2007). The podcasts on varied themes, including, temples, spiritual, India Vision, health, corporate, etc. are published by me.
So far 148 episodes have been uploaded in the above three sites. Podbazaar (79- audio only), YouTube (18 - video only) and Blip.tv (51 - both audio and video).
Total viewers (downloads) of these 148 podcasts is 62722 (as on 9th Sep 2008). - Podbazaar (15889), YouTube (20307) and Blip.tv (26526)
I selected the top 5 episodes (downloaded more) in all the above three servers.
Out of this 62722 downloads, top 5 in each server (total 15) has attracted viewership (downloas) of 32623. That means 52% of the total downloads was on the top 5 of each server. It wil be interesting to note the classification of themes of these 15 podcasts:
1. On Temples, Ram Setu - 8 podcasts - 16547 downloads (26.4% of total downloads)
2. On Dr Kalam, including his interviews - 4 podcasts - 13587 downloads - (22% of total downloads)
3. On Corporate themes like PR 2.0, CSR, etc. - 3 podcasts - 2489 downloads - (4% of total downloads)
I have not tried the podcasts on film industry. From my experience, Religion and Dr Kalam are attracting nearly 50% of the podcast listners. Since Corporate themes are very focussed, only relevant people will be watching.
Since podcasts are new tool, I am sharing this information for the benefit of communication professionals, to understand the listenership pattern.
Most of the podcasts are available in http://www.poduniversal.com
