While releasing the ezine on "Education Loan Schemes", we had also announced about the Education Loan Task Force to create awareness about the education loan schemes with banks and also to take up with the concerned banks wherever highly meritorious, but very poor students do not get support from the banks.
So far, we had taken up five such cases where (a) sanction of loans were delayed and the students were asked to come to bank several times, (b) where quarterly interest being recovered from the poor students, etc.
We took up the matters individually with the Chairmen of concerned Banks and all the problems were resolved within 2 days after our bringing to the knowledge of the concerned Chairmen.
When public sector banks handle such great volume of business and people, we do not rule out the possibilities of such complaints. We should appreciate those banks for attending to such complaints when it is taken up with them and resolving the issues.
We appreciate State bank of India, Canara bank, Indian Bank and Indian Overseas Bank, who responded to our complaints promptly and resolved the issues.
A special mention also has to be made about the State Bank of India. We brought two cases to their knowledges. Senior officers at the level of Deputy General Mangers form their Local Head Office established contact with us and updated the compliance. It is to be appreciated that a giant bank with more than 12000 branches and 2 lakh employees, could attend customer feedback swiftly, when they are brought to the knowledge of their senior officers. We have experienced personally, many new generation private sector banks do not even care for the customer feedback and send out a robotic response. It may be noted here, none of the private sector banks offer poor people friendly education loan schemes.
The first education loan task force meeting will be held on saturday the 27th feb at Chennai. Many eminent people including former Chairman of banks are joining us. We have also invited SBI, Canara Bank, Indian Bank and IOB senior officials to participate in the task force to share their views. .
The task force is a positive movement to bridge the relationship between the brilliant, poor students and the banks.
We also met Mr T K Rangarajan, Member of Parliament and discussed with him about the loan schemes. We have also suggested some measures to improve the scheme to benefit more number of poor and brilliant people at a lowest rate of interest. Mr Rangarajan is very passionate about poor people going for higher education. He will be personally taking up with Hon'ble Finance Minster during the Budget Session. He also promised to submit a request to the Speaker for 'Calling Attention'.
