RE: [India_Vision_2020] Centre to shelve river-linking project

I am not an expert in this field. But, just for information. In India, thus far, no hydro-electric, dams or mining rehabilitation has been done in an ethical and fair manner. Jadugoda, uranium-mining saga is nothing short of a crime against humanity. Now, Meghalaya is being prospected for uranium. River-water linking is a monumental task that also requires a non-corrupt and fair system to render justice because millions of people would be deprived of land and livelihood. We are 134th in the human development index and one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Look what we have done with our SPZs, more than 450 now, but expected to be even more. Even China has only given permission to 30(app). We will be responsible for a huge number of people in need of resettlement within our own country and we don't have a good record. Hence, many experts believe that the human cost and misery would be more than what it is now when the river-waters are linked.

Regards,

sudarsan

Think the other way- Why go to gather from other countries? Every year River water Devastation takes place in India. Collect Statistics from 2000to 2009, 1) the Loss of Life due to floods in the whole of India,2) Loss of Houses ,3) Central Govt Aid given to All the States, 4) the Total amount spent by each & every State 5) Permanent action taken to Stop Future havoc & such other Questions Answers may be gathered. Then find a permanent way out of the problem Let each State help the people of the other State & Save the Country & it's Wealth. Saving Our Country is the Uppermost Need of the Time. Let the Solutions be Our Own.

We do not know the pros and cons of river-linking in our country. However, if somebody can share with data as to how many countries around the world have implemented river-linking projects, and how successfully are they functioning. Cost and time factor would also be an issue. Thanks and regards

We depend only on rain (And rain depends on us!!!), this time is considered to be rainy season, but while neighboring state is floating on water, my villagers are still looking at the sky.

>HI all,
>I want to share the news, I found in one local news paper of Assam. The river linking project was one of the most dicussed projects in Vision 2020 and also by Sir Abdul kalam. But this proposal initiated a lot of protests in river-rich states like Assam with mighty Brahmaputra flowing through its heart, where they feared that this will lead to imbalance in the eco-system in case of waters. The recent decision by Govt of India proves the fear of Assamese people to be true, though, it clearly demands some more scientific explanation.
