The heroic efforts of Mr. Laxmanan, a common man, in exposing the corrupt practices going on in the Regional Passport Office, Chennai at the behest of the Regional Passport Officer and her husband and the efforts of CBI in nabbing them, deserves public praise.
We need more Laxmanans in our society to be vigilant, to protect the rights of the common man and our democracy.
The number of crorepatis are ever increasing. It is obviously at the cost of the common man who is squeezed from all sides. Corruption has become the order of the day. This case is a pointer to it and may be just the tip of the iceberg. It is high time, Public Vigilance Bodies consisting of eminent citizens who can be accessed by any one any time are formed, to curb corruption.
Introduction of Multi Purpose Biometric Smart Card linked to a Bank Account as a Debit Card to track all transactions, may be the best solution in a vast country like India, as it would help to curb corruption and curtail the huge overheads associated with monitoring of corruption.
