CS was also engaged in fighting one of the worst droughts/famine when hewas agri minister.Now that the country is witnessign one of the worst and wide spread droughts,it is topical to have some major initiatives to make agri drought proof.Cs rerpot on agri has some useful action pints.They need to be brought up to date. also relief operations in affected areas need some non Govt oversight and if a committee is formed to audit the relief works it would be timely.Action should speak up.S,Narendra
I had already written to you about the many events being planned in connection with my father's birth centenary. These events are to be linked to the many causes with which my father had been actively involved during his lifetime.
I am glad to inform you that one such event is taking place on 5th of September 2009 at Chennai. This event is a tennis tournament which is being organised in his memory since he was the President of the All India Lawn Tennis Association for two consecutive terms. The Inauguration is going to be at 9.00a.m. at YMCA grounds at Nandanam . All the other details are given in the following Newsletter for your information. Kindly treat this as my personal invitation. I will be delighted to see you at this inauguration.
For your information since the last time I corresponded with you, an organising committee has been formed with Dr. Anil Kakodkar Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy. Shri Murli Deora, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Dr. R K Pachauri of TERI have agreed to be the patrons. There is going to be major event in Delhi involving the farmers and the scientists who were involved in bringing about the Green Revolution in the 60's along with my father. We are planning to honour the unsung heroes of the Green Revolution.
As far as this particular event in chennai is concerned the main coordinator for the Chennai Tennis event would be Mr. R M Narayanan, a very dear friend of mine whose uncle late Shri N C Krishnan was closely associated with my father and involved him in the activities of the Traingular Tennis Trust from time to time. This trust has been doing yeomen service in training youth in the game of tennis.
I would like to once again invite you all for the inauguration of this event taking place on 5th of September at YMCA grounds, Nandanam at 9.00a.m. Mr. Ramanathan Krishnan, the tennis legend who was very close to my father is going to talk on CS and Tennis highlighting the interest which my father took to develop this game further in India.
