Dear All:Mr armugam has drawn atten to a crying need and some ways to mitigate the problem of poor education in real public schools for the public.
Ex prime ministers Chandrashekhar,VP Singh and other eminent persons at a private NGO meeting in 2000 had drawn attention to not only poor education in Govt schools but to a real problem that is beign ignored. It is not just curricula where help is needed. It is in the area of developing the social skills of poor family children.Call it life skills, social skills that improve self efficacy of children but also teach them how to be good memebrs of eh society. At present this is a negleted aea in most schools public or private.
More experiments like the one brought to our otice by Armugam are needed.
TV and other neoghbourhood media through children TV progs can do a lot.t.The Public Broadcasters in USA/Canada/Britain have some great progorammes concentrating on this aspect of education.Out Tv is sadly donot have this content. If TV is used for impratign social skills/life skills , a lot of our social problems and behaviour problems (not washing hands, not beign conisderate to others, not quuing up,not beign familiar with use of modern urban infrastructure, eco freindliness, health practices etc). While all kinds of violent programmes ar aired as children TV, one does not see this kind of social skill impratign entertainment programmes.for children. This is basic education on which curricula can be built.
Wec an pool respources and buy some of the foreign CDs and dub them into Indian languages and supply them to schools tha thave faciltiies for AV education.
