i work for Pratham in Rajasthan, the organisation that started Read India Initiative. it is exciting to see that so many other org and individulas have joined the initiative and made this happen.
it is very exciting to read the comments made so far!!!
would like to share with you some exp on teachers motivation.
initially we were giving the training at Cluster level during one of the monthly meetings. we realised during the course that the required teacher was not coming and the training was being given to HM alone.
second, since it was just a training teachers thought it to be another burden and results can be imagined.
what we did next time onwards is in-school training or what some would say - on site training. here, we would showcase the teacher as to how to use the cards, other reading material and slowly when students get engrossed and start reading what-ever text they want, teachers get interested and get involved!
it is vital to showcase the methodology by doing it yourself and making a person believe that yes it works. only then, we, the humans tend to get excited and join the change and become agent of change. we found that teachers were then quiet forthcoming since they saw how easily things can happen and that it is not a burden.
as in the Lead India TV campaign, there are so many of us who are ready to chip in with their effort, all that we need to do is to take the initiative and commit ourselves for it first.
