It is a very good initiative that Shri Srinivasan our Moderator has started. It is time that the educated became aware of the seriousness of voting and shred their indifference to voting. Through such social networks, we should increase the awareness among the net users not only to vast their vote but to also motivate and encourage their kith and kin especially the elderly, making them to cast their vote. Otherwise, their votes will be utilised towards the day-end (around the last hour in the voting time) by unscrupulous politicians putting their men to cast these votes! Best wishes to Srinivasan in his efforts V Rajendran Secretary Cyber Society of India

dear friends
Moderators and the Partner organisations of India Vision Group is pleased to announce the launch of "Celebrate Democracy - Vote India" campaign.
We can feel proud that India is the largest democracy in the world and our General Elections is going to be the biggest elections on the earth. 714 million voters are eligible to vote. Out of this, around 15% to 18% are new voters. More than 45% of the voters are under the age group of 35.
Democracy is the only best form of Governance, when compared to military rule, dictatorship, rule by Kings, autocracy, etc. Over a period of 60 years, we have been improving our democracy in every General Elections. Even when USA is having paper ballot papers, India is the only country which has introduced successfully 'Electronic Voting Machines' even in rural segments. Every Indian should feel proud of our democracy and we are fortunate to be a voter in this great Nation.
India did not get freedom overnight. More than 200 years of freedom struggle by our ancestors has brought freedom to India. Many of our freedom fighters suffered heavily in the prisons and many of them died even, without seeing the free India. They never had any selfish motive. Their only aim was to make India democratic country and to get us the freedom to elect our own Government.
Very sadly in the past sixty years, more than 60 percent of the middle class and educated people have shown 'indifference' to the democracy. Many of them did not even participate in the voting process. Readily, they would justify their indifference with many reasons like criminalisation of politics, corruption, violence, etc. There is another view that only because of the indifference by the educated middle class, political system is becoming bad. Whatever be the reason, every Indian citizen has to take interest in developing the democracy, which was the result of the struggle of great fore-fathers. By participating in the democratic process we will be giving respect to the sacrifices made by freedom fighters.
As said earlier, Democracy is comparatively a better form of governance. We have been strengthening the democratic process over period of time. We have the best judicial system, which gives course corrections periodically. Two days back, President Obama has praised Indian Education system and he wanted US Children to compete with Indians. Our RTI Act is a great tool in the hands of all the citizens. Still we have to go a long way.
Now, I find that there is a general awareness amongst the youth, about the political system. Let us create more awareness about the democracy and ensure that every one of the eligible voter exercises his vote on the polling day. Already some of the organistions have started the campaign.
On behalf of India Vision team, we appeal to all to spread the awareness by joining hands with the other organistions. Let us all motivate the young and educated people who are eligible to vote to participate in the election process. Unless large number of youth come forward to vote, the democracy cannot be further strengthened.
Please write in your blogs, facebook, orkut, social media networks, emails, motivating the youth to go and vote. Please also motivate the college students to participate in the poll process. Though, we cannot expect a miracle over night, this trend will definitely change the system for betterment.
After our featuring the top performers of 14th Lok Sabha, an awareness has come to evaluate the performance of the MPs in different parameters. Many mainline media also have started analysing the performance inside the House. This is a very good encouraging trend.
Let us all join together to 'Celebrate Democracy' - Really, we should feel proud to celebrate our hard earned democracy. It is in our hands to strengthen the democracy. Nobody else can do this.
Please share your views as to how we can achieve this collectively.
