[India_Vision_2020] Message to Women- current demand & supports available

Jai Hind,

Produce farm inputs, SHGs told

District administration prepared to extend support in training and marketing the produce

TIRUCHI: Women's self-help groups should take to manufacturing farm inputs such as bio-fertilizers as there was a good demand for such products among farmers, Transport Minister K. N. Nehru has said.
Self-help groups in Coimbatore were already producing farm inputs such as 'panchakavyam' in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. SHGs in Tiruchi should follow their example.
This would also help the agriculture sector, he said speaking at a function organised to distribute revolving funds and credit to SHGs and welfare assistance here on Friday.
The district administration was prepared to extend full support to SHGs in getting training and marketing their produce.
All eligible SHGs would be given revolving funds and credit, the Minister said. He also said that about Rs.1.45 crore of welfare assistance have been distributed to over 4,000 members of various State welfare boards in Tiruchi district this year.

Silent revolution

Forest Minister N. Selvaraj said one out of every four women in Tamil Nadu was a self-help group member and the groups were ushering in a silent revolution. He appealed to the SHGs to utilise the opportunities made available by the government for the economic development of women.
Collector T. Soundiah said about 5,000 SHGs were to be given revolving fund and credit in Tiruchi district this year.
So far, about Rs.60.45 crore have been disbursed as revolving fund and credit to SHGs this year.
While Rs.3 crore was distributed as revolving funds, Rs.15 crore was distributed as loans to 3,000 SHGs on the occasion.
