Re: [India_Vision_2020] Inclusion of 'None of the above' option in ballot / EVMs, after listing official candidates

Hi,

The one strange/funny/silly perception that many educated Indian's have when it comes to voting for an educated and supposedly honest independent candidate but with remote chance of winning the election is - my vote will go waste!

If you want to show your protest to the existing political parties then start voting for independent candidates. That will surely be a pointer for the political parties.

Further, today it has become fashionable to bash the politicians as corrupt. It is known that politicians do not know the ways and means of beating the system. He is guided by the `babus' to be corrupt.

Funnily the government babus are more respected than the politicians!

Regards
Jagannathan

dear friends

After Mumbai terror attacks,  there is a wide spread anger and anguish amongst the Indian citizens.  Hitherto, silent middle class have now started taking active role in strengthening the democracy.

Due to various reasons, the political parties, start fielding candidates with doubtful integrity.  We have seen some of our Honorable Members of Parliament are serving their constituencies from the prison.

There is an argument that due to such bad candidates,  many of the voters do not take the election process seriously and do not go for voting also..

There is already a provision in our Election rules, what is known as 49 (O).  Under this section, any voter after showing his identity, can  refuse to vote for anybody.  He has to sign a register. But,  his refusal is known to all the officials and political agents.

While voting for a candidate is 'secret', not opting to vote is 'not secret'.  In view of this,  Election Commission has already recommended to the Government of India 5 years back,  to include 'None of the above' option in the ballot papers / Electronic voting machines, after listing the official candidates.    In this process, the secrecy is also maintained.  This would force the polical parties to put up good candidates.

A case is also pending with Hon'ble Supreme Court on a PIL filed by somebody.  On behalf of India Vision Group, we are submitting a request to Hon'ble Chief Justice of India to direct the Government to include 'None of the above' option in the ballot paper / voting machine, after listing all the official candidates.  We strongly believe that only Hon'ble Supreme  Court can come for the rescue to the Indian voters.

Please sign the petition in the following link.  Please also circulate to your contacts.  This petition is open till 31st December 2008.  After collecting the signatures, we will submit to Hon'ble Chief Justice of India for his consideration, during the first week.  Please visit the link:
